Among the oldest popular musical bands of Italy, the “Giuseppe Verdi” Orchestra of Fognano took its first steps in 1885, when it was known as the Fognano Philharmonic Orchestra. It managed to survive the tribulations of the two wars, making comeback in the sixties. The centenary of the band was unexpectedly productive: there was an exceptional surge of aspiring new members. The “Banda” – as it is affectionately called by its fans – has evolved into a place where you can not only learn to play and undertake a regular concert activity, but it is also a aggregative and productive center that organizes concerts (one memorable one held in 1994 in Rome, in the presence of John Paul II), appointments, twinnings, school music programs and folkloristic events. Its tireless activity has brought together generations of inhabitants of Fognano.
